THERE IS /
THERE ARE
Como
veo que hay personas que no se acuerdan de esto, lo vuelvo a explicar.
·
There
is y there are significan “hay”. En español da igual que haya 1 cosa o un
millón de cosas, la palabra no varía. Pero en inglés “there is” se usa para 1
persona, animal o cosa. “There are” se usa siempre que haya más de 1.
EJEMPLOS
·
There
is one witch in the party: Hay una bruja en la fiesta.
·
There
are twenty wizards in the Halloween party: Hay veinte
magos en la fiesta de Halloween.
THERE WAS /
THERE WERE
·
Ambos
significan “había.” De nuevo, en español da igual el número de personas,
animales o cosas que haya, ya que “había” es invariable. Sin embargo, en inglés
si había 1 persona, animal o cosa usamos “there was” y si había más de 1,
utilizamos “there were.”
EJEMPLOS
·
There
was a dinosaur in the garden: Había un dinosaurio en el
jardín.
·
There
were 200 monkeys in the zoo: Había 200 monos en el zoo.
